The Christian life is often compared to a race. It’s not just a race to finish, but one to finish well. It’s not about finishing first, getting a gold medal, or beating the person behind you. The goal is to finish stronger than you began, and for most, this can be a difficult challenge.
Paul said in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”
This race is won when we keep the faith. When we live each day longing for the return of Christ, we are kept in faith. The blessing we have as Christians is that the one who authored faith is the same one who perfects our faith. Hebrews describes Jesus as the founder and perfecter of our faith. It goes on to encourage believers to persevere and continue in holiness. This is our race. May we finish in faith.
